Here you see the burrs of plastic debris created by the heat of the motor tool.
These burrs are pretty soft and rub off the chimney with just finger pressure. Scraping and sanding IS NOT necessary. If you choose to use a saw you just have some powdery debris to vacuum up or blow away.
